The Rhesus Monkey or Macaque
- Catégorie parente: English
These Rhesus Macaques lived in complete freedom in the east of France near Metz for about ten years, after escaping from a zoo which was closing down. They set up home in a disused retirement home where they were fed by Ernest Scheier, the former gardener, who continued to live there. As the old man began to spend more and more time in hospital the monkeys were fed less regularly, and so began to venture out into the town in search of food, swinging on telephone wires to go from one house to another and even exploring people's homes. The town council then decided that they must be captured, and we went to collect them on two occasions : December 21, 1999 and then April 5, 2000.
